There is never a dull moment in this town, let's explore!

Waterfront Things To Do In Tampa

Being in the Sunshine State means there is a ton to do outside. Remember it does get extremely warm and humid in Tampa depending on the time of year – just keep this in mind when making your plans for outdoor activities. Always have hydration and wear sunscreen to protect that beautiful body of yours.
Boasting some of the best water inspired activities, Tampa has it all. Beaches, riverwalks, boat tours, fishing, and the ability to rent water sports equipment to your heart’s content. Splash right into some of these options below!

Ben T. Davis Beach

Things to Do in Tampa - Ben T. Davis Beach

Located at 7740 W. Courtney Campbell Causeway, Ben T. Davis Beach is the largest and one of the closest beaches to Tampa -  the zen of the waves are just 10 minutes from downtown and 5 minutes from Tampa International Airport. This is one of the top destinations in the Tampa Bay area, with parking only $0.55 an hour, so be prepared for a remarkably busy location. There are options for renting water equipment like paddle boards and canoes or even charter options for the angler in the family. Before packing your beach bag, be sure to check the water quality for swimming and fishing at the Florida Department of Health website.

American Victory Ship & Museum

This one is for the history buffs. The American Victory Ship and Museum was built in 1945 in just 55 days and has been used in WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars. During WWII, the Merchant Marine was the only branch to allow women and minorities to serve in combat. This storied piece from mariner yesteryears is positioned in the Channel District of Tampa, right behind The Florida Aquarium and Channelside. With views of the channel and cruise ships coming and going, there is plenty to look at and learn along your tour.

Tampa Riverwalk

Extending from Armature Works (more on this hot spot in a moment) to Sparkman Wharf, a collection of eateries built from old shipping containers, the Tampa Riverwalk is 2.6 miles long and is a local favorite spot for residents to visit restaurants, museums, and parks. The Riverwalk is free and open 24 hours for anyone to use. You are even able to drink alcohol along the Riverwalk in designated areas if your beverage of choice is in a Friends of the Riverwalk specialty cup. With the Riverwalk connecting several points of interest on this list you can visit multiple places along your route down the river.

View the city like never before in air conditioning, or, if you’re feeling fearless, go doors-off for the entire flight. With rides ranging from 10 minutes and extending up to an hour, you can customize your ride to suit the needs of your passengers.

Busch Gardens And Adventure Island

Busch Gardens and Adventure Island are some of the top amusement parks in Tampa and conveniently located around the corner from one another. Adventure Island also falling in that H2O inspired category being a water park adds another water activity that’s wholesome and fun! Family feeling a little more in the mood to stay dry, head over to Busch Gardens. Offering immersive animal tours and coaster rides caters to not only the thrill seekers but the animal lovers in the family.

Columbia Restaurant

Things to Do in Tampa - Columbia Restaurant

Columbia Restaurant has been operating for over 115 years and is one of the oldest and most historical restaurants in Tampa. The Spanish-Cuban cuisine gives guests the chance experience the history and culture of the food Tampa is built on. Many reviews and suggestions include starting off with Columbia’s Original “1905” salad that is tossed table-side. Dishes like the Original Cuban Sandwich, recipe unchanged since 1905, allow you to immerse yourself in a time of when the culture mashup of Tampa was in its infancy. Be sure to end your meal with some of the best flan created from a recipe that dates all the way back to 1935. Too, history buffs will love the signage detailing the storied history of the restaurant, including the Rough Riders passing through.

International Plaza

The International Plaza is the premier shopping destination in Tampa. With over 200 stores and 16 restaurants, there is something to appeal to everyone in the family. With luxury brands like Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, and Gucci you can have the shopping spree of your dreams. If tech or sports are more your speed, the International Plaza has you covered - Apple, Tesla, and Peloton all have storefronts for your latest gadget needs.

Amalie Arena And Raymond James Stadium

If you’re a sports fan, Champa Bay is the place to be. Amalie Arena is home to Stanley Cup winners Tampa Bay Lightning and Raymond James is home to Super Bowl winners Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While these sports events are not to be missed when given the opportunity, both venues offer a myriad of other happenings. Amalie Arena hosts events like Disney on Ice and concerts from various artists, while Raymond James hosts music festivals and college football playoffs, along with NFL showdowns.

Adult-Only Tampa Outings

While family-friendly places are most of the venues on this list, we can’t leave out adult-only fun. These venues will have age restrictions starting at 18 years old, but most of the real fun starts with 21+ adults.

Hard Rock Casino

Things to Do in Tampa - Hard Rock Cafe

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While those aged 18-20 are only allowed to play live Poker, visitors 21+ gets to enjoy the full benefits of the casino, including multiple watering holes for those who prefer an alcoholic beverage or two (just be sure to get a ride home!). When you grow tired of slots,  the hotel and casino’s other features shine, like live shows featuring famous comedians and musicians from all genres.

M. Bird At Armature Works

M. Bird is the word if rooftop bars are your preferred way to catch a view. The 21+ space is unique in that it is the rooftop of Armature Works, a large "mixed use" building, which features the Heights Public Market. The market is an open-seating concept home to a plethora of kitschy restaurants such as Empamamas, an empanada restaurant that serves the coveted Cuban Empanada, as well as Bake'n Babes, a dessert one-stop shop with shakes, brownies, and even a CBD-infused cookie. While the public market is all ages, and often has pups and toddlers basking in the shared outdoor space, M. Bird is the only 21+ spot at Armature Works.

M. Bird offers a wide range of cocktails to suit all tastes, with fun names like the Strawberry Moon, a gin-based beverage crafted to celebrate the spring season's final full moon, and the Cafecito, a rum beverage with cold brew for a tantalizing coffee-cocktail hybrid. Beverages aren't the sole piece of their menu, which boasts a bountiful brunch, and an everyday menu with a prosciutto sandwich and can't-miss truffle shoestring fries.
