How to Enjoy CBD-Infused Drinks at Home

By Brittiany Ralls October 20, 2022

CBD is one of the most widely used treatments for anxiety and pain relief, and incorporating it into your diet may provide the ultimate home remedy for various illnesses and medical conditions. CBD is a critical cannabis compound, and it can be isolated and utilized in different forms, ranging from flower to distillate.

Edible products are a common form of consuming CBD, ranging from soft chews to baked goods — but what about drinking your CBD? With new and innovative methods for consuming CBD products, infusing tinctures into a variety of beverages is a fun way to add a new spin on your favorite drinks.

Why Use CBD?

When it comes to plant-based medicine, CBD products have therapeutic benefits for numerous neurological and physical disorders. In fact, CBD may help combat the symptoms of these diseases. Research into CBD’s medicinal benefits has been going on for years, and recent developments have made it available for widespread use. Remember, being open and honest with your doctor about using CBD products is always a good idea to ensure no adverse reactions from combining it with prescribed medications. Regardless of why you choose CBD, treating your ailments with CBD could be a great way to get the relief you need without using over-the-counter medication.

Some of the most significant benefits of CBD use include:

Reducing Anxiety and Depression

The compounds in CBD help to naturally lower stress hormones that cause anxiety, making it great for helping you calm down when you are feeling stressed or anxious. For depression, CBD may help to combat the chemical disruptions that cause depression, elevating your mood and helping stimulate a neurological response similar to antidepressants.

Controlling Epilepsy

Since 2018, clinical trials surrounding the use of CBD for epilepsy control have proven its effectiveness for combating seizures. Taken alongside epilepsy medication, CBD may increase the effectiveness of these medications and help prevent epileptic episodes.

Relieving PTSD

Because of its anti-anxiety properties, CBD use, alongside traditional talk therapy, is an effective way to combat PTSD episodes. Overcoming the anxiety related to talking about traumatic events is necessary for recovery and CBD may help make this process more tolerable. While also providing essential stress relief.

Combating Drug Addiction

Opioid addiction is one of the biggest epidemics in the world, and getting clean may be extremely hard for some people deep in their addiction. CBD use may help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings in opioid users, treating both physical side effects like nausea and mental effects like anxiety and paranoia.

Lessening The Impact Of ALS Symptoms

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a degenerative disease that causes nerve tissue breakdown in the brain and spinal cord, slowly making those with ALS lose control of their muscle movements. CBD treatments, when paired with THC, have been shown to help reduce muscle jerks and other involuntary movements associated with ALS.

Treating Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can be attributed to various diagnoses, and managing it can be stressful. Conditions like fibromyalgia, migraines, endometriosis, and pain flare-ups can occur at any point, so quick, reliable relief is crucial for combating these episodes. Using CBD as a pain relief method, whether ingested or topically applied, may provide some relief for various kinds of pain.

Helping Treat Diabetes

CBD use has been linked to lower glucose levels in the body, which may help mitigate the onset of diabetes. For those with diabetes, CBD treatments have been shown to help decrease the production of resistin, the compound responsible for blocking insulin absorption.

For those looking into alternative forms of medicine to treat their health problems, CBD may provide a natural form of relief that can help you reduce or eliminate the amount of pharmaceuticals you are prescribed.

Can You Mix CBD In Drinks?

Topical creams and flower are traditional ways of consuming CBD, but for some, dosing is easier with products that are more easily disguised, like edibles. Encapsulated Tinctures, which are alcohol-based concentrates, can be easily incorporated into a variety of drinks, making your CBD experience completely customizable and suitable for your needs. However, oil-based tinctures like Rick Simpson Oil tinctures or syringes must first be infused into butter or oil, then infused into your drink, as they are not water-soluble.

The methods for incorporating CBD into different drinks are simple and completely customizable based on your taste preferences. Whether you prefer herbal teas or cocktails, the variety of drinks you can make with CBD can be altered to fit every occasion and every season. As a new twist on traditional drinks, crafting CBD mocktails or CBD-infused drinks may be a great alternative to traditional cocktails and alcoholic beverages. Some of the most common ways to incorporate CBD into drinks at home include these favorites.

Hot Drinks

For some, the ultimate source of comfort comes in the form of a hot drink. Herbal teas or brewed coffee can be infused with CBD before brewing, slowly releasing the active effects into your beverages through brewing and steeping. It can also be added to different drinks in the form of alcohol-based CBD tinctures. For those with more of a sweet tooth, CBD-infused hot chocolate may be the perfect cozy drink for a relaxing night in.

Iced Drinks

On a hot summer day, nothing is more refreshing than an ice-cold drink. For relaxing after a long day in the heat or just lounging by the pool, a CBD-infused iced drink may be the perfect way to beat the heat. From iced teas to lemonades, CBD-infused cold drinks are sure to hit the spot.

Mocktails

CBD-based mocktails are the perfect alternative to cocktails with alcohol. Whether you abstain from alcohol or just prefer cannabis-based alternatives, CBD-infused mocktails are perfect for having fun without the booze. This can be a healthier option for all types of people from fitness enthusiasts to those who suffer from alcohol addiction but still want to be a part of gatherings where alcohol is present.

Whether you take your drinks hot or iced, adding CBD may help you unwind, relax, and experiment with your taste preferences. The range of drink combinations or recipes that can be enhanced by CBD is seemingly unlimited, with any drink having the opportunity to become a perfect CBD-infused beverage. Easing anxieties, unwinding after a long day, or putting a new spin on your favorite mixed drinks is super simple with the addition of CBD.

Can CBD and THC Be Used in The Same Drink?

CBD and THC Tincture

THC and CBD are a match made in heaven, so adding both into one drink is sure to be a recipe for success. Especially since our CB1 receptors are keyed for THC, meaning we take in CBD better when a little THC is present. From a chemical perspective, CBD and THC are both made of the same substances; however, how the atoms of each molecule are arranged causes different effects once in your system. THC, unlike CBD, reacts differently in the body, giving you the feeling of being high. Both compounds, when combined, have a unique synergy that helps highlight and remedy different facets of both.

The Entourage Effect

The “entourage effect” is the synergistic phenomenon of one cannabis compound affecting the others, and vice versa. By combining both ends of the cannabis spectrum, the balance between CBD’s effects and THC’s effects helps create a more enjoyable medicating experience.

For example, one of the more negative side effects of THC use is anxiousness, and overuse may cause an increase in restlessness and panic attacks. CBD, when used in addition to THC, helps combat the anxiousness generated by THC use, giving the person a more mellow, enjoyable effect.

When it comes to drink creation, knowing how you feel about certain substances is key to making the right mix. If you use cannabis to treat different medical conditions but feel overwhelmed by the psychoactive effects of THC, adding CBD into your drink recipe may help create a better cannabis experience. Opting for a CBD or THC-infused drink instead of alcohol may help you avoid these negative feelings. Creating infused drinks is the perfect vehicle for combining THC and CBD, helping you expand your cannabis experience.

What Is The 1:1 Ratio and Does It Apply To Drinks?

When it comes to the entourage effect, the easiest way to encourage this reaction is the use of the 1:1 ratio, pairing an equal amount of THC to CBD. The non-psychoactive aspects of CBD are perfect for reducing the effects provided by THC. Although the presence of CBD helps cut down on the active effects of THC, they are not completely diminished, and proper dosing control is necessary for an enjoyable time medicating..

For example, if you eat an edible that has around 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD, you may not feel the active effects at your typical tolerance level. If you then opt to use more THC you not only change the balance created by using a 1:1 product but you also run through more products by increasing your tolerance. Maintaining the 1:1 ratio is essential for getting the full benefits of the entourage effect, especially when it comes to infused drinks.

The easiest form of CBD and THC to incorporate into drinks are tinctures. Keep in mind that 1:1 tinctures are much more potent than flower and need to be handled delicately for the right effects. Using full syringes or droppers of tinctures can make your drinks too potent. Plus, using too much of either your CBD or THC in each drink can throw off the ratio of your recipe, leading to unfavorable results.
